Inspired by the nostalgia for ’90s and early 2000s canteen-style snacks, we’ve launched our take on the bacon and cheese roll, the ‘Sunday Treat’.

Fond memories of after-school snacks have fuelled our latest grab-and-go option at The Grumpy Baker Potts Point and Vaucluse locations… The Sunday Treat.
The inspiration came The Grumpy Baker Business Manager, and daughter of our founder Michael, Lily. She was craving a bacon and cheese roll one afternoon and decided to make it herself using Turkish bread dough.
It quickly became something our The Grumpy Baker family kept baking and eating together.
Back when Michael opened our first store location in 2002, bacon and cheese rolls were all the rage. Bringing it back now taps into that same set of flavours many Aussies grew up with.
Instead of standard white bread, our Sunday Treat is served on our house-made Turkish bread, hand-rolled in-store for a lighter, fluffier bite that perfectly balances the rich toppings.
We’re kicking things off with three irresistible flavour options:
- Classic Bacon & Cheese: Built on a rich tomato base for that ultimate school-days hit.
- Shakshuka & Egg: A Mediterranean-inspired twist packed with spiced, comforting goodness.
- Feta & Onion: Layered with sweet caramelised onion, sharp feta, balsamic, and fresh thyme.
“It’s something my kids grew up eating, but we didn’t want to just do the same thing,” Michael says. “The Turkish bread makes it lighter, but it still has that same flavour people expect.”
We’ve launched the Sunday Treat at our Potts Point and Vaucluse locations exclusively on Sundays, with plans to roll it out across all our bakeries in future.
Pop in this weekend and grab a taste of nostalgia, with a Med twist.
